One to watch: Blair Archibald
The Australian fashion industry is always on the hunt for the next ‘one to watch’ with the likes of Dion Lee and Michael Lo Sordo now-industry mainstays, flying the flag for local fashion abroad.
This season, the name on everyone’s lips is Blair Archibald.
This New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based menswear designer was awarded the prestigious International Woolmark Prize in last year, with a coat made from a recycled wool military blanket and a textile made from repurposed wool garments and plastic bottles. This design philosophy is also mirrored in the label’s production process, with Archibald sourcing from an Italian mill which produces materials in a sustainable manner for his Woolmark winning creation.
In his MBFWA debut last month, Archibald made a statement with his genderless attitude to fashion, with both male and female models taking the runway in unisex apparel and gender-neutral footwear from German-born Birkenstock. Much like Archibald, Birkenstock’s commitment to sustainability is seen in its quality, defying fads of the moment and created to stand the test of time. Beloved by both men and women around the world, Birkenstock has also made a name for itself, blurring the boundaries of fashion footwear.
There’s no denying, Blair Archibald and his design ethos are “one to watch” for a reason.
Birkenstock is located on Level One.
